Hair Trends for Spring 2012

The new Trends are glistening hair, pomytails, the "urban wave", embellished updos, bigger blowouts and sophisticated braids and twists.

The first three - glistening hair, ponytails and the "urban wave" originate from the laid back looks of two decades ago. Plus, it gives us an excuse to put the straightener to rest, natural waves give off an effortlessly beautiful feel.

Designers such as DKNY, Anna Sui and Versaci have all featured full, voluminous blowouts.
Rather than keeping these curls smoothed down and tamed, they're meant to be free and wild, adding instant glamour. To get these big waves, use pin curls an mousse.

Our personal favourite trend of this spring is the use of braids and twists. I love updos that feature braids on braids on braids. Twists and braids instantly add volume, definition and elegance without too much work. A personal favourite of ours is creating a headband braid on one side of your head, paired with one of your favourite headbands behind the braid and keeping the rest of your hair in a neat bun behind your head. Incredibly easy and super chic, this is a great got-to hair style if you've only got a few minutes to fix up your hair.

To dress up the pony, try a slicked back look with soft curls at the end. Another favourite of mine is taking a small section of hair, braiding it and tying it around your hair tie, securing with a bobby pin at the end. Etsy has some amazing hair ties that easily individualize your pony tail and add a chic detail.
To go along with the laid back look, wear a super low pony with some strands drifting to the front. To get this look, use a piece of ribbon, leather, velvet or suede to tie loosely around the pony.
This spring shows promises for easier, laid back hairstyles that we're definitely excited to try. Grab some of your favourite hair accessories and go crazy!
